Antique dolly tub zigzag

These stunning and very collectible dolly tubs are antique originals – Antique dolly tub zigzag features vertical lines bisected by a wavy line across the surface.

The sides were ribbed to enable the user to rub the wet cloth against the walls to assist with the hand-washing process.

Originally made to wash clothes and bedding they would have been filled with hot water and then agitated with long-handled plungers.  A pair of wooden tongs would then have been used to remove the hot textiles for the dolly tub.

Original tubs are strong and heavy being made from thick pressed galvanized metal.  Newer reproduction versions do not come anywhere near in terms of quality and tend to degrade very quickly.

Dolly tubs are commonly used now as planters for olive trees or bay trees. A wonderful decorative antique for your home or garden.
