Description
Antique carved model | Goose head
This charming timber carved goose head was created as a casting mould for model making. A unique, one-of-a-kind decorative antique. We believe it dates from the early 1900’s and was found in France.
A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a small-scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word that means “sketch”.
A wonderful decorator’s accent, stylist’s prop or quirky decorative antique. This unique goose head model would look wonderful on top of a console table.
Please expect the condition of this goose to be worn, it’s in unrestored condition and that’s how it needs to stay. Its charm is in its imperfections.
From a collection of hand-carved wooden Casting Moulds. The wooden carvings where first wrapped in papier mâché, once dry the papier mâché was cut in half. The two halves were put back together as a whole paper figure. The figure was either covered in resin or painted.
A wonderful addition to a riverside or lakeside home.
