Description
Antique carved model Duck Head | Douglas
This charming timber carved duck head was created as a casting mould for model making. A unique, one-of-a-kind decorative antique. We believe it dates from the early 1900’s and was found in France.
A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a small-scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word that means “sketch”.
A wonderful decorator’s accent, stylist’s prop or quirky decorative antique. This unique duck head model would look wonderful on top of a console table.
Please expect the condition of this duck head to be worn, it’s in unrestored condition and that’s how it needs to stay. Its charm is in its imperfections.
From a collection of hand-carved wooden Casting Moulds. The wooden carvings where first wrapped in papier mâché, once dry the papier mâché was cut in half. The two halves were put back together as a whole paper figure. The figure was either covered in resin or painted.
A wonderful addition to a riverside or lakeside home.
